Innovations in Monitoring

The past decade has seen major breakthroughs in monitoring forest change, but key challenges remain. Breakout sessions will explore the latest technologies and scientific approaches to tackle these challenges and move towards more precise, timely and holistic monitoring of forest landscapes.

Forests & Agriculture

The 2020 target for ending commodity-driven deforestation is around the corner, and international stakeholders want to know - where do we stand? Breakout sessions will review public and private sector initiatives to date and explore how monitoring solutions can support accelerated progress.

Data into Action

Advances in deforestation early warning systems, open satellite imagery and mobile technologies have led to early successes in transforming forest monitoring data into action by police and park guards, NGOs and communities. Breakout sessions will explore the ingredients necessary for replicating these successes.

The Future of GFW

Global Forest Watch is the world's leading geospatial forest monitoring platform. It has been used by over two million people from every country in the world, leading to diverse outcomes. Breakout sessions will discuss opportunities and challenges to scaling the impact of GFW and ensuring that the GFW platform continues to meet user needs.

Forests, Climate & Biodiversity

Forests are critical for avoiding global climate change. Breakout session will explore recent initiatives to improve monitoring of forest landscapes for climate and biodiversity and help make the case for natural climate solutions.
